I am Masaru! Cockatrimon Strikes

There are Monsters Among Us

Sahgo's Notes: Hm... not a good title to start with.

Well... I am surprised. I was expecting terrible things, like turning Masaru into a real retarded (like Daisuke), or a loose script, horrible music... and it wasn't like this. The script is almost perfect [seriously, it's really accurate!], the music is not DA BOMB (like Adventure's x_x)... you know, I'm happy here. It was really good. And that's how it's supposed to be.

The English Version writer is Jeff Nimoy. He did a good job ^^

Side Note:

Let's start with the opening song. Well... I didn't hate Data Squad's intro, it's better than the first 3 series', but... I still think it could be better. It makes me remember of those 80's cartoons, for some reason. The original opening song is called "Gou-ing! Going! My Soul!!" and, despite the fact of being my least-favorite intro, it's way better than the dub's.

Oh yeah, now the dub version has its own ''episode name box'' that wasn't there before (at least not in Adventure/02/Tamers... not really sure about Frontier). It's... really cheap-made.

Satsuma (Retarou Satsuma) had his name changed to "Sampson". His dub voice is good. At least for me that is.

Yoshino's name is kept, but her friends (aka Lalamon, for now) call her ''Yoshi'' (...seriously, Nintendo is going to sue someone). Her voice is pretty good.

Masaru had his name changed to "Marcus" (......they could have chosen something closer). His voice is not the best of the cast, but it's really good. I mean, the original Masaru talks in a very streety, slangy way. Quinton Flynn tries to do the same in the dub, but it's not THAT successful. Even so, I liked it.

Side Note: [Added: 23 February 2008]
A note from the Duckman: Reader Josephine submits an additional change to this episode:

"In the beginning of the episode, Yoshino's warning directed to all the citizens in the area to evacuate was a bombing. In the dub, this was changed into a gas leak. With all the terrorism and shit going on, this change was pretty obvious."

Not as fun as changing the bomb into a giant orange, but I can deal with it. Thanks, Josephine!

Stupid Dialogue:
Masaru: I don't know who the hell you are, but nobody's allowed on my turf! I'm the number one street fighter in Japan, Masaru Daimon!
Marcus: This is my training ground! One day I'm gonna be a champion ultimate fighter! Hands all over will chant my name! They will say "Marcus Daimon is the best!"

...am I the only one who thinks this is wrong!?
Also, ''Daimon'' pronunciation is wrong. In the original, it sounds like "Dah-ee-mon", but in the dub it sounds like "Day-mon".

Side Note:
Agumon's dub voice isn't that great, but his japanese voice isn't much better (in my own, pathethic and ignorable opinion). So, it's ok.

Stupid Dialogue:
Masaru: Quit it with that big ugly mug!
Agumon: Hey, I was born this way!
Marcus: Keep it up and I'll knock you out like I did these guys!
Agumon: What did you do? Just talked 'till all them sleep?

Awww, the joke is lost :(
This is wrong. It shouldn't be said that Masaru beat up those guys until the end of the episode.

Side Note:
Kudamon's dub voice is great.

Stupid Dialogue:
Agumon: I was waiting for you to say "1, 2, 3, go!". Like this: "1, 2, 3, GO!!" [attacks]

Censor:
Agumon kicking Masaru's balls was covered with some impact screen.

Ouch!! He hit the weak spot for massive damage!

Side Note:
In the original, Agumon calls Masaru ''aniki'', and in the dub it was adapted to ''boss''. Even though ''aniki'' literally translates as ''older brother'', it's used to point a high-position with a family-like connotation (gangs and Yakuza often use it), so, ''boss'' is a close translation.

Lalamon's attack, ''Nuts Shoot'', was changed to ''Seed Blast'' (wow, what a useless change).

As in Adventure/02, Agumon's ''Baby Flame'' is changed to ''Pepper Breath''.

Censor:
A ''closed'' sign was translated. The translation is accurate.

Side Note:
In the original, Yoshino eats coffee jelly, but in the dub, it's chocolate pudding... for some reason.

The information given by Yoshino about ''Marcus'' in the dub is almost the same as in the japanese version, but in the original Yoshino said Masaru was 14 years old. In the dub she doesn't say his age. I wonder if it's because of the whole ''characters-aging-up/down law'' that all Digimon anime has.
Obs: But it seems he is older in the dub. In the original, Yoshino points Masaru studies in Otori Municipal Junior High School, but in the dub he's in Otori Middle School.

And it seems the Digital Accidents Tactics Squad (DATS) was changed to Digimon Data Squad (DATS too... somehow).

The Digisoul is called DNA in the dub o_O What is weird 'cause I thought  the dubbers loved Digi-stuff.

Inconsistency:
Even though the ''Evolution'' is changed to ''Digivolution'' (as always), Marcus' digivice still reads "EVOLUTION".

The ''Digisoul Charge'' is changed to ''DNA Charge'', even though in the video-game it's called ''Digisoul Charge''.

Side Note:
Geogreymon retained his name and attack (Mega Flame).

In the original, Masaru faced 13 men, but in the dub it was increased to 15 o.O

Also, in the original those guys ''wanted to know what Masaru didn't like about them, then he showed them'', but in the dub they wanted to be ultimate fighters just like Marcus, then, they fighted. By the way, what the hell is an ultimate fighter? Something like a Hokage?

Total episode retained: 100%.
